Our Story

Read Write Create is the brainchild of twin brothers Matthew and Jared Young. Their creative journey began alongside Phil Vischer, the creator of VeggieTales, where they honed their skills in storytelling and production. Fueled by a passion for writing, filmmaking, and hands-on creativity, they founded Read Write Create with one goal in mind—to inspire the next generation of creators. Through engaging products that spark imagination and encourage storytelling, they are on a mission to help kids bring their ideas to life.

A Little Twin History

1989

Matthew and Jared Young have always enjoyed making things. As twins, it’s hardly a surprise that they make a pretty good team. Back in the first grade, they won a county-wide milk cart stacking competition. Of course, this was mainly due to the other team’s tower falling over at the last minute. Still, a win’s a win.

Go Dawgs!

2005

Matthew and Jared graduate from the University of Georgia without a clear plan. Creatively restless, they spend the next few years painting houses by day while bringing their characters, Bill and Charles Peterson, to life through video and performing at churches (warning: these early videos still exist on YouTube).

The Fantastic World

2008

After several years of developing their characters, Bill and Charles Peterson, the brothers had the opportunity to team up with Phil Vischer of VeggieTales fame on his newest venture, JellyTelly, one of the first subscription-based family media companies.

Making a Career of It

2009-2020

Over the next decade, the brothers establish careers in narrative and commercial filmmaking, producing documentaries, feature films, short films, and countless commercial projects.

Back to Where We Started

2020

Like many others, the 2020 pandemic became a moment of reset. After years away from their first love, children’s media, the brothers returned to their roots with The Very Airy Library featuring author and educator Stanley Tucker.

Share Your Story

2022

Matthew and Jared partnered with Stan Tucker to transform his book-writing program into a polished educational product. With the addition of curriculum expert Connie Crawley, the team launched Share Your Story in schools in 2022—igniting a passion for creating tactile products that educate and inspire.

Read Write Create is Born

2024

After spending a few years working full time on Share Your Story, Matthew and Jared began planting the seeds of Read Write Create. They saw a growing need for hands-on products that inspire creative kids to bring their own ideas to life—“make stuff,” as they like to say. With Jared’s talent for branding and design and Matthew’s knack for imagining new products, Read Write Create came to life.
